Understand the first deposit, timing, and deductions

A sale date is not a guaranteed bank deposit date. Learn how availability, deposit schedules, reserves, verification, Etsy fees, refunds, and bank processing affect the amount and timing.

Deposit schedule and available balance

Etsy lets eligible sellers choose from available deposit schedules, subject to country and account rules. A new or reviewed shop may experience different availability, reserve, or hold behavior.

The payment account should separate:

  • Sales and collected amounts
  • Etsy fees and taxes Etsy handles
  • Refunds or adjustments
  • Funds not yet available
  • Funds available for deposit
  • Deposits already sent

Why the bank amount can differ

The amount sent may be lower than gross sales because Etsy applies the current listing, transaction, payment processing, advertising, regulatory, tax, refund, reserve, or currency related entries that apply to the account.

Do not copy fee numbers from this course. Review Etsy's current fee policy and the line items in Shop Manager before pricing products.

Bank processing adds another step

After Etsy marks a deposit as sent, the receiving bank may still need time to post it. Weekends, holidays, bank details, and local clearing systems can affect the result.

Reconcile the first deposit

Match the Etsy payment account statement with the bank entry. Record the gross sale, each fee or adjustment, the sent deposit, and any conversion at the appropriate accounting date.

Lesson checklist

  • I know where to see available funds and sent deposits
  • I reviewed the actual fee and adjustment lines in my shop
  • I understand that bank processing begins after Etsy sends the deposit
  • I reconciled the first deposit instead of comparing only gross sales

Next, you will separate listing currency from deposit currency.
