Lesson 4/64 min read

Understand listing, payment, and deposit currencies

Your shop display currency, buyer payment currency, Etsy payment account currency, and bank deposit currency can differ. Identify each layer and review conversion before choosing a setup.

Currency questions become confusing when several layers are treated as one.

Identify the account's supported payment currency

Etsy publishes the currencies supported for Etsy Payments. The set and country behavior can change.

Separate the four layers

  • Listing currency: The currency you select for product prices.
  • Buyer display or payment currency: What a buyer may see or use.
  • Payment account currency: The currency Etsy uses for the seller payment account.
  • Bank deposit currency: What the receiving account accepts or receives.

If these differ, Etsy or the bank may perform conversion and apply current terms.

Make a business decision, not a visual decision

Choose a listing currency based on target buyers, pricing clarity, product costs, and the real conversion path. Then use the shop's current payment account and fee information to understand the effect.

Do not assume that listing in a major currency guarantees receiving the same currency in the bank.

Lesson checklist

  • I identified the listing, account, and deposit currencies
  • I checked Etsy's current supported currency page
  • I know where conversion can occur
  • I will use actual statements rather than an invented exchange rate

Next, you will prevent common verification and payment errors.
