Realistic Mockup for a Printed Product

This is the biggest visual headache for POD sellers: the design is ready, but without showing how it sits on the actual product, selling it is hard. This prompt places the design on a realistic surface, with the right light.

Prompt: copy it, fill in the fields, run it
Place: [DESIGN DESCRIPTION] onto [PRODUCT, e.g. white cotton t-shirt / ceramic mug / matte-framed poster] in a realistic mockup scene. Set the product in a natural context: [SCENE, e.g. on a wooden table / hanging on a model / on a wall shelf]. Lighting: soft, single-direction window light, casting a light shadow for depth. Camera: slightly above eye level, product centered in the frame. Color grade: warm, commercial, e-commerce listing photography aesthetic. Material: the print sits realistically on the [PRODUCT SURFACE, e.g. the light fold of the cotton fabric / the glossy glaze of the ceramic], following the surface's natural curve and texture. Square format, 1:1.

How to use it

  1. Use it as the sales image before uploading a new design to Etsy.
  2. Apply the same design to different product types (t-shirt, mug, poster) to turn one design into multiple listings.
  3. Use it to see how the design will actually look on the real product before physical printing.

Example / tip

A POD seller selling a design themed 'mountain silhouette plus sun' enters the product as a 'cream linen poster frame.' The output stages the design inside the frame, on a wooden console, in soft afternoon light.

Usage example

Copy the prompt as is, fill in the bracketed fields for your own product, and paste it into Nano Banana Pro (Gemini) or GPT Image. If you have a real product photo, upload it as a reference so the output stays truer to the product. If the first result falls short, ask for a one-line fix (e.g. "soften the light," "simplify the background").

When not to use it

Don't force this without a real product image; the prompt is meant to make an existing product look better, not invent one that doesn't exist. Never drop the output straight into a listing without checking it first. AI sometimes renders the material, proportions, or text wrong. Always verify it yourself against your brand colors, your logo, and how the product actually looks.

Output quality checklist

  • Does the product look real? Any deformed detail (text, proportions, a complex part like a hand)? If so, regenerate or ask for a fix.
  • Does it match your brand palette and the product's real material and color, or does it look random?
  • Is the aspect ratio right for the use case (square for a listing, vertical for social, 4:5 for ads)?
  • If there's text in the image, is it legible and spelled correctly? Text breaks often in AI images, check it closely.
