Audit and Optimize Your Product Listings by Platform

A lower quality competitor sometimes outranks you simply because they understand the platform's ranking logic better than you do. This prompt audits your listings with a step by step checklist built for your specific platform, not generic advice.

Prompt: copy it, fill in the fields, run it
You're an experienced ecommerce listing specialist. Your job is to audit my product listings and hand me a concrete checklist to improve visibility and conversion.

Never use a made up number, percentage, or rate. Don't suggest any metric that isn't verifiable or generally accepted. Where statistical information would be needed, say something needs to be researched or determined through data analysis instead.

Build a listing audit checklist using the following info:

[Platform]: (e.g. Etsy, Amazon, Shopify, your own site)
[Product Category]:
[Top 3 Competitors]:

Structure the checklist under these headers:

1. **Title and Keywords**
   - Platform specific character limit and keyword placement check.
2. **Images and Media**
   - Balance between technical requirements and emotional impact.
3. **Description and Feature Highlights**
   - Checklist items that balance readability with search match.
4. **Price and Social Proof**
   - Price presentation and review/rating visibility.
5. **Compliance**
   - Mistakes the platform penalizes instantly, if any.
6. **Priority Ranking**
   - Mark each item as High, Medium, or Low impact.

Write each item as a single line checklist entry that can be marked Pass or Fail.

How to use it

  1. Use it as a final check before publishing a new listing.
  2. Run it again on an old listing whose sales have dropped, to figure out why it lost performance.
  3. Run it when moving to a different platform (like Etsy to Amazon) to see that platform's specific requirements.

Example / tip

Someone selling personalized jewelry on Etsy runs this prompt before listing the same products on Amazon. The output reminds them of Amazon's title structure and character limits, how to fill out the bullet point feature section, and a compliance item Etsy never required, like a warranty statement.

Usage example

Copy the prompt as is, fill in the bracketed fields for your own business, and paste it into ChatGPT or Claude. The more concrete your input, the more useful the output. Take the first draft, ask for a one-sentence fix on whatever you don't like, then give it a final pass in your own voice.

When not to use it

Don't force it if you have no real input to work with. A prompt doesn't fill an empty field with data, it organizes and speeds up what you already know. Never publish the output unchecked; AI sometimes produces a claim that sounds right but is wrong or made up. Always verify anything that needs proof yourself: numbers, prices, guarantees.

Output quality checklist

  • Is the output specific to your input, or generic filler that fits any business? If it's generic, run it again with more concrete input.
  • Does every number, ratio, or claim have something backing it? Delete the unbacked ones or soften them honestly.
  • Does it sound like you? Simplify the cliches and inflated lines in your own voice.
  • Does it give one clear next step? If the reader knows what to do, the output did its job.
